Perdido Street Station

Perdido Street Station - China Miéville bugs D: bugs everywhere DDD:

Indian Summer

Indian Summer - 'Pratt Manara', 'Hugo Pratt', 'Milo Manara' IDEK, gorgeous art except apparently Manara deliberately draws one identical 'cock goes where?' face for ALL of the female characters and the male gaze is so overwhelming that I kinda wanted to go and take a shower after every few panels. Decent story though.

The Revolution Was Televised: The Cops, Crooks, Slingers, and Slayers Who Changed TV Drama Forever

The Revolution Was Televised: The Cops, Crooks, Slingers, and Slayers Who Changed TV Drama Forever - Alan Sepinwall The annotations stuck in the middle of text are okay when they're on blogs, but really annoying in book form. If they had been incorporated into the rest, this would have been a five-star read for me.

Whispers Under Ground (Peter Grant)

Whispers Under Ground - Ben Aaronovitch, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith On consideration, the Avatar: The Last Airbender references earn it an extra star.

Balkan Memories: Media Constructions of National and Transnational History

Balkan Memories: Media Constructions of National and Transnational History - Tanja Zimmermann apparently my life isn't depressing enough, so i figured that reliving the happy happy joy joy times of the nineties was a good idea. *headdesk*

Moon Over Soho

Moon Over Soho - Ben Aaronovitch Ugh, the plots don't actually get any better, but IDK, at least it's less faily than the Dresden Files, and I've suffered through like ten billion of those? So I guess I'll stick with it. Still liking the characters quite a lot.

Midnight Riot

Midnight Riot - Ben Aaronovitch Great voice and characters, legitimately funny at times, promising worldbuilding, but the plotting and general structure of the narrative are... uh. Not so good. Hopefully it'll get better later on?

Emily of New Moon/ Emily Climbs/ Emily's Quest (3 Book Set)

Emily of New Moon/ Emily Climbs/ Emily's Quest (3 Book Set) - L.M. Montgomery jeez, exactly how many misunderstandings and unfortunate coincidences can you stuff into one book?

The Architecture of Happiness

The Architecture of Happiness - Alain de Botton it's been like three months and i'm still not over the hideousness of this cover design.

The Fifth Child

The Fifth Child - Doris Lessing brb ordering a diy tubal ligation kit and never ever having any children.

Mystery Mile: Albert Campion #2

Mystery Mile (Albert Campion Mystery #2) - Margery Allingham Tries very hard to be poor man's Lord Peter Wimsey, fails completely.

The Blue Castle

The Blue Castle - L.M. Montgomery This is the most gloriously over the top idfic-y book I can remember reading in a long time.

The Great Railway Bazaar

The Great Railway Bazaar - Paul Theroux every single person this dude meets, talks to and generally treats like a fellow human being is also a dude. if a woman is mentioned, there's fully 95% chance she's a prostitute. other 5% - someone's wife, mother or a random beggar. also, white people are generally referred to by their proper names; non-white people more often than not get called by their nationality (they're pretty much interchangeable anyway!) and let's not even get into the epic clusterfuck - literally! that is the japan section. fun times.

In Siberia

In Siberia - Colin Thubron so much better than paul fucking theroux, i'd give it ten million stars for that alone.

Wigs on the Green

Wigs on the Green - Nancy Mitford so... fascists - not actually funny. who could have guessed? (everybody.)

The House in Paris

The House in Paris - Elizabeth Bowen baby raptor jesus save me from repressed upper middle class white people.
